The Psychiatry and Law Committee presents a roundtable discussion with the Honorable Judge Kathleen Coffey, First Justice of the West Roxbury Division of the Boston Municipal Court, and Leila Spencer, the program manager of the Boston Outpatient Assisted Treatment (BOAT) and Mental Health Courts Program. Together, with their teams at the Boston Municipal Court and Boston Medical Center, they are working to help divert the mentally ill from jail and into treatment programs focused on recovery in the community. We will discuss various topics around jail diversion, community psychiatry, and mental health courts and questions will be welcome throughout the session. Join us virtually on February 23, 2021, from 7-9 pm to discuss important solutions to the challenge of improving the criminal justice system for the seriously mentally ill population.
