MASSACHUSETTS PSYCHIATRIC SOCIETY Multicultural and Diversity Committee & Disaster Readiness Committee Presents "A Virtual Townhall on Covid-19: Lessons From Disaster Psychiatry and the Front Lines" As the number of individuals affected by COVID-19 continues to rise in Massachusetts, businesses, schools, offices and practices have closed. As individuals are ordered to stay at home and practice social distance, widespread panic, anxiety, and depression is palpable as we attempt to best adapt to these new provisions. Many psychiatrists and other mental health workers are considered essential employees and continue to staff emergency mental health services, inpatient services, and consult services. Others continue to deliver necessary treatment via telepsychiatry services. These experiences not only put providers at increased exposure to contracting the virus itself, worsening anxiety, cabin fever, and leading to many other concerns. Please join us for an MPS town hall open to all MPS members in order to discuss principles of disaster psychiatry but also highlight the experiences of being on the frontlines in delivering care. Agenda: - Welcome and Introductions - Dr. Newsome Presenters: Todd Holzman, MD Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatry Attending, Past Chief Psychiatrist for Disaster Services in the Departments of Mental and Public Health for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Past Chair of Disaster Mental Health and Disaster Services for the Massachusetts Bay Chapter of the American Red Cross Destiny Pegram, MD PGY-3 University of Massachusetts Medical School Psychiatry Resident Brandon Newsome, MD PGY-4 Boston Medical Center Psychiatry Resident
